About Us

Temple Methodist Church is a town centre Church on Upper High Street, just a few yards from the pedestrianized High Street of Taunton and the entrance to Vivary Park. It has been on this present site for just over 200 years. The premises belong to Temple Methodist Church, which functions as a vibrant place of worship - as well as being pleased to share premises with many other groups and people.  It is one of seven churches in the Taunton Deane and South Sedgemoor Circuit.

Our Mission Statement:

We formulated our mission in 2013 to capture what sort of Church we are or strive to be.

Temple Methodist Church:

Welcomes all

Celebrates God’s love

Offers opportunities to explore the Christian faith

Seeks to serve in the world and to challenge injustice

Our Calling:

The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God's love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.

Inclusive Methodist Church:

Methodists believe that all people are equal in God’s eyes, that all people are made unique and precious, in the image of God, and that all people are included within the gracious love of God, because we are all children of God. We aim to live this out in the Church and in our communities. We believe we need to go beyond simply abiding by the law to ensure everyone can be equally and safely included in the life of the Church. Our strategy for Justice, Dignity and Solidarity asks us all to become aware of the history of how people have been treated, the attitudes and behaviours which cause harm every day for some people, and to do all we can to change this so that all people are equally welcome to participate fully in the life of the Church.
All people - all ages, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, races, cultures, opinions, and life experiences, are welcome and treated as being made in the image of God.

Our Links with Other Churches:

Temple Methodist Church is committed to work for closer links with Taunton United Reformed Church and St John's Taunton - the Three Churches Partnership.  At a special Service in August 2018, we made a commitment to one another. We have a programme of shared services with the URC, and enjoy joining with St John's for their Evensong on the first Sunday evening of the month. We will continue to explore what this might mean in terms of greater visible unity.
